Wilson Arbis – Master of Batok Tattooing
Originally from Northern Luzon in the Philippines, Wilson Arbis is now based at our Circular Quay studio in Sydney, NSW. He began his tattooing journey in 2005, working in street shops across Cronulla, Darlinghurst, and Bondi. Over the years, Wilson has honed his skills in all tattoo styles, making him a versatile and highly sought-after artist.
Wilson is also one of the few—if not the only—artists in Australia who practices the ancient Filipino art of Batok tattooing, a traditional hand-tapping method using bamboo sticks. Batok tattoos carry deep cultural significance, symbolizing bravery, social status, and rites of passage. Today, Wilson’s clients seek Batok tattoos to reconnect with their heritage, honor traditions, and express their identity in a deeply meaningful way.
Beyond tattooing, Wilson practices various forms of Martial Arts, finding balance between his physical and spiritual self. His quiet, enigmatic, and loyal nature is reflected in his work, where he brings both joy and meaning to his clients. By blending the ancient craft of Batok with contemporary Australiana motifs, Wilson masterfully honors tradition while creating modern expressions of beauty and identity.
