How do i prepare myself to get tattooed?
It is important to be healthy, rested, and to have eaten well within 4 hours of getting tattooed. It is also a good idea to have a sugary drink, some fruit or lollies on hand while getting tattooed to help the body deal with endorphin's, which may be naturally released during the tattooing process. Avoid excess sun exposure within 10 days prior to being tattooed. Do not come into the studio under the influence of drugs or alcohol. But most importantly, be relaxed and enjoy your time in the studio!
Is it safe to get a tattoo?
Yes! we are a professional tattoo studio, are NSW Health Department approved and regularly inspected to comply with Council and State regulations. we meet a rigorous standard of environmental criteria for health, safety and sanitation.
We hold a current NSW Tattoo Operators License for all studios and all of our artist hold a NSW Tattooists License.
All of our artists are fully trained in cross contamination prevention and keep up to date for changes that occur within the industry.
All needles, tubes, inks and sundry items used during your tattoo are single use only.
Tattoo Aftercare
Remove the plastic wrap 1-4 hours after getting tattooed and wash your tattoo with CLEAN hands in warm, running water and an unscented soap. Gently wash away any residue, plasma or dried blood, completely cleaning the area and washing off all soap and residue. Lightly pat it dry with a paper towel or clean towel and let it air dry.
Apply a thin layer of your preferred aftercare cream. We stock Inky Tattoo Salve. Alternatively, Bepanthen Antiseptic Cream can be found at any conventional chemist/pharmacy. DO NOT coat your tattoo in a thick layer of cream. This can suffocate the tattoo, keep the wound open and prevent a proper healing process.
Clean your tattoo morning and night, or whenever necessary, applying your aftercare cream directly afterwards. Twice per day is recommended. Ensure your tattoo doesn’t get too dry throughout the day.
When your tattoo is healing, the skin under the tattoo will start to feel dry and tight. Continue to apply your aftercare cream as mentioned in Step 2. A slight flaking of the skin will occur and the first millimetre of pigment in your skin will drop out in this process. This is completely normal! Do NOT pick or scratch your tattoo while it is healing! This can damage your tattoo and may result in pigment loss. Occasionally a scab will form, this too is perfectly normal. Your tattoo will take 2-4 weeks to completely heal, everyone will heal at a different pace.
Please ensure clothes worn over your tattoo are CLEAN, soft and not too tight so they do not suffocate or rub over the area and prevent it from healing properly.
Second Skin/Saniderm
Keep your Second Skin on for 3-5 days. It may fill up with ink and blood, this is completely normal. If it is causing discomfort, irritating your skin, or starts to lift off (letting air or water under the bandage), take it off. Remove it in the shower under warm water and start aftercare from Step 2 (above).
For Larger Tattoos
For larger tattoos ONLY, such as sleeves or portraits, re-wrap your tattoo with cling wrap and surgical tape for the first 2 days to give it time to seal up and prevent airborne bacteria from entering AFTER following cleaning and creaming steps above. Re-wrap at night before sleeping and remove cling wrap in the morning before showering. You may also want to re-wrap it before going to work if your job entails you coming in contact with soil, dirt, oil, debris, sand, dust or bacteria.
What To Avoid
(Until your tattoo is COMPLETELY HEALED)
Baths, spas, saunas, swimming, salt water, chlorine, direct sunlight, sunbathing, touching with unwashed hands, oral contact, strenuous physical exercise, excess sweating, shaving, waxing and exfoliating.
Please note: We cannot take responsibility for how your tattoo heals.
If you experience any problems with these after-care instructions, please discontinue and contact our studio. In case of an emergency, seek attention from a medical professional.
